Nigeria Unique Club Biography The Nigerian Unique club of New York, was created among couple of friends who where hanging out together, almost every weekend between the year of 1998 till when the club became fully established in the year 2000. In the 90s we all will visit each other in our respective homes or appartments. One faithful day within the weekend's we usually meet, we suggested to ourselves while we were at Hon. Osaro Okunbor's residence, that the gathering should be turned into group of social friends, right there, at that particular day, we that were present agreed to continue the gardening every weekend or every other weekends which was mostly held at Hon. Osaro Okunbor house, at Boston Road, Hon. Harris Igbinigun at Fulton Avenue, Hon. George Enadeghe at Boston road and Hon. Frank Eliavhor ‘s place. It was a way for us all to keep our friendship together.At this point there was no constitution governing us. It was just friends of social get together. Gradually we started coming up with rules and regulations on how to support each other in time of needs, such as marriage ceremony, child birth and any social event. During the end of the 90’s to be exact in 2000, Hon.Harris Igbinigun's losses his father. Hon. Douglass Ovensire was then the first president of the NUCNY. As at that time, already NUCNY had in place in our By-laws, that the sum of two thousand dollars to be given to any member as a way of financial support toward the death of a paternal or maternal member. There were other funds stipulated for various supports by the bidding laws as at then. Our motto was choosen to be “WHAT AFFECT ONE,AFFECT ALL” as at that time and till date. it was only three members: Amongst us that were married. Mr. Douglas, Mr. Andrew, and Mr. Owie, before it finally expanded to every other members gradually. The NUCNY have come a long way, to become what it's today. During the recent pandemic, covid19 era; we switched from physical meetings to online meetings monthly via zoom to all our members safe but Thank God we do not loss any of our member during the pandemic. A NUCNY member has his apartment burnt down, NUCNY being who we are just as our moto said what affect one,affect all, and the club provided financial assistance to him to rent another house, buy clothes and utensils to get back on its feet.
